Manage Groups of Premium Accounts

blog post illustration

We've recently had an increase in the number of schools purchasing Group Packages for their staff.

To help make these easier for schools to manage, we've added a Group Administrator Dashboard that allows the school's group administrator to log in and see at a glance pertinent information about their school's group. This includes a list of the group's members, the package expiry date, and a list of downloadable group invoices. Group Admins can access this after logging in by clicking on the "My Group" button in the menu.

If you have any questions about this new feature please drop us a line and we'd be happy to help.

Sorting and Removing Items

blog post illustration

We are progressively rolling out controls to sort and delete items on our worksheets.

Where you see the icon with 3 parallel lines next to an item you can click and drag the item to rearrange the order.

Where you see the circular x icon you can click to delete the item.

New Sorting Worksheet Maker

blog post illustration

We're pleased to add yet another worksheet generator to our lineup.

Our new "Sort into Order" worksheet generator allows you to quickly create alphabetical sorting worksheets. You can also use it to test comprehension of any subject matter where sorting demonstrates understanding. Examples include "adverbs of frequency", historical dates and events, mathematical fractions, ranking countries by population, etc.

As always we'd be delighted to hear your feedback.

Matching Pairs Improvements

blog post illustration

Based on user feedback, we've added the ability to include "Answer Boxes" for the Matching Pairs worksheet maker.

After drawing a line between the matching pairs, students also write the corresponding letter in the Answer Box. This makes it a breeze for the teacher to mark.

Wordsearch Improvements

blog post illustration

This week we've made the following changes to our wordsearch makers:

We've combined the Basic and Advanced wordsearch generators into one. We did this because the functionality of these two worksheet generators was so similar that the distinction didn't make sense and was causing some confusion. All previous saved wordsearches can be loaded into this new combined wordsearch maker and no functionality has been lost.

We've updated the wordsearch graphic design to be simpler and cleaner. The grey grid-lines and thick border are gone. On the answer sheet the first letter of each word is circled.

We've added an option that will automatically select the optimum grid size for your wordlist, so that you don't have to try and guess what size you will need to fit all of your words. Just choose 'Auto' at the Grid Size section to use this. You can also still continue to manually select a grid size if you wish.

Finally, we've updated the puzzle difficulty levels. Words are now spread across the grid for "easy" and "standard" wordsearches. For "hard" wordsearches they are nastily interwoven into an unforgiving ball of consonants and vowels! Don't say you haven't been warned.

We've Got your Back

blog post illustration

We've added a simple little feature to all of our worksheet generators to help avoid losing unsaved work.

If you have changed a worksheet since it was last saved a blue glow will appear around the worksheet page and the label "Unsaved" will appear in the top right corner. If you navigate away from the page without saving the changes, your browser will remind you to save before you leave.

New Guided Handwriting Worksheet Maker

blog post illustration

In response to user feedback we've introduced a new worksheet generator for making handwriting worksheets. These are great for students that are just beginning to write in English.

This worksheet maker creates worksheets with traceable dotted examples and blank practice guidelines for a set of words that you enter. The dotted letters are Print Block style (resembles Zaner Bloser style).

Word Lists

blog post illustration

You can now use Shared Worksheets as Word Lists.

This makes it easier than ever to access worksheet content shared by our users. It also allows you to import Word Lists across different worksheet types. For example, words from a Bingo Shared Worksheet can be directly imported into a new Spelling Test worksheet.

We have over 1,000 Word Lists from worksheets that have been shared by our users. In addition to this you can also access Word Lists from your own previous worksheets.

Look for the "Use a Word List..." button on our vocabulary-based worksheet makers to get started.

Intuitive Input

blog post illustration

We've redesigned our worksheet generator forms so that they are more intuitive to use.

When you start a new worksheet you will now be presented with a mockup of the final page. At a glance you can get a feel for how the final worksheet will look, and changes to fonts and sizes update on the fly.

Happy worksheeting!

Better by Design

blog post illustration

Today we are unveiling a completely new look for Quickworksheets.

Our new site is designed to be easier to navigate, with large clear fonts, better use of whitespace, and colour-coded tabs for each of 4 new sections:

- About Quickworksheets
- Worksheet Generators
- My Account
- Shared Worksheets

The new site is designed for use on a wide variety of devices, from smartphones, to tablets, to widescreen desktop monitors. The content will automatically adapt to the screen size of your device.

We hope the new design will make using Quickworksheets more pleasant and enable you to be more productive. As always, we love to hear your feedback!

Multiple Improvements

blog post illustration

Our multiple choice worksheet maker is one of our most popular. The best multiple choice worksheets have carefully crafted "distractors" (wrong choices) unique to each question. Sometimes, however, you don't have time to create good distractors for each question.

To help you when time is tight, Quickworksheets now has the option to automatically create distractors using the answers to other questions in the multiple choice test. It will intelligently group similar questions to make the distractors as convincing as possible.

We've also added handy True and False buttons to allow you to quickly create true/false questions. These choices will appear in a consistent order on your worksheet. Finally, if you have entered the text "All of the above" it will now always appear at the bottom of the choice list.

We hope you'll find these improvements useful! Please let us know if you have any feedback.

New Year, New PDFs!

To kick off the new year we've completed the process of migrating all of our worksheet makers to a new PDF engine. This has the following advantages:

  • Faster PDF generation;
  • Smaller PDF files;
  • Better foreign language support;
  • Support for all Quickworksheets fonts in PDF files.

Wishing all our users a productive and happy 2015!

Direct PDF Downloads and Saving Drafts

blog post illustration

Thanks to helpful feedback from our wonderful users we have 2 new saving-related features to introduce to you today.

You can now directly download PDFs of your previously created worksheets without having to load and "remake" them. Just click on the PDF icons on your "My Previous Worksheets" page to initiate a download.

You can also save a partially completed worksheet, allowing you to come back later and finish it off, and to avoid losing work if your power or internet connection goes down. Use the "Save Current Progress" button in the sidebar of each worksheet maker, or if you're a pro hit Control-S while you're working. (Command-S on a Mac)

Once again Quickworksheets saves the day, is what you would hear us say if we weren't so humble.

Multiple Choice Marking Overlay

blog post illustration

A, C, A, D, D, B, D - The chant of the multiple-choice marker.

If you have a large number of students, marking can be a drag. We've made this tedious job a little less so by adding a Marking Overlay Template to our Multiple Choice Worksheet maker. Simply print this template onto a sheet of transparency film and overlay it on your students' answer sheets to quickly spot any errors.

Clipart Choices

We have more developments planned in this area so stay tuned!

Default Secure Connections and PDF Invoices

blog post illustration

We have a couple of new changes to introduce today.

For new payments from January 2014 you can access a PDF Invoice and Receipt from your 'My Account' screen. Some of our users have requested these for tax purposes or for proof of purchase for employer reimbursement.

We have also switched on secure connections by default for all of our users. You will notice that when you log in to Quickworksheets your browser will display a padlock icon in the address bar indicating the connection is secure.

If you have any questions about either of these improvements please feel free to contact us.

Making Shared Worksheets More Accessible

blog post illustration

We've totally revamped our shared worksheet index and Top Ranked pages to include much more information about shared worksheets.

The summary information now includes target language and instructions for all shared worksheets, and new shared worksheets will feature a real preview to give you an idea of how the document is laid out. This should make it even easier to quickly find a worksheet that meets your needs from the hundreds that have been shared by our awesome user community.

A Better Fit

blog post illustration

We've added the ability to set custom font sizes for many of our worksheets. You'll find it in the Worksheet Formatting drawer.

Please note that some of our worksheet makers automatically scale the text size to fit the available space, so in these cases the custom font size option is not available.

More Intelligent Saving

Based on user feedback we've changed the way that Quickworksheets saves your work.

Whenever you create a new worksheet or load an existing one (including those shared by other users), a copy will be saved to your account when you click "Make Worksheet". If you subsequently make further changes (without navigating away from the page) and again click "Make Worksheet" the saved copy will be updated (overwritten) to reflect your changes.

The new system is designed to avoid the confusion caused by having several revisions of the same worksheet with the same title and the same date being saved to your account.

We've also taken the opportunity to do some speed optimisation to make Quickworksheets even quicker!

Proofreading Improvements

blog post illustration

We introduced our Proofreading Worksheet Maker earlier this year and it's steadily been gaining traction amongst our user base. It works by automatically adding up to 5 different types of common mistakes into a passage of text.

We've now improved the Answer Key so that the mistake types are colour-coded. This means you can easily see which type of mistakes have been introduced where, ensuring that you stay one step ahead of your students.

Nice Move

blog post illustration

We're pleased to launch a new feature that allows you to automatically transfer content between different worksheet types! Enter a list of words just once and use the "Move text to..." menu to make a Word Scramble, Wordsearch, Spelling Worksheet and set of Flashcards, all supporting your target language.

The "Move text to..." menu will appear on the worksheet generators that have this feature enabled.

In some cases moving content between worksheet generators will require that the content be converted to a different type. For example, if you move content from a Matching Pairs worksheet to a Cloze Test worksheet, the matching pairs will be converted into a paragraph of text. Quickworksheets undertakes this conversion automatically.

Nice move.

Cloze Test Generator Revamped

You can now quickly remove multiple occurrences of the same word by holding down the OPTION or ALT key while you click on a word in your passage. You can also choose to display multiple occurrences of words only once each in your Word Bank, making it easy to generate cloze texts with all articles, conjunctions or prepositions removed.

Add Instructions

blog post illustration

Quickworksheets worksheets are designed to be easy to understand and are also able to be used with languages other than English. For those reasons we have avoided having written instructions on worksheets to date. However we realise it is sometimes necessary to provide some written guidance, especially where a teacher will not be present to explain how to do an activity. To address this we have now added the ability to enter instructions below the title of each worksheet.

Instructions are optional. Use them if you need to, don't if you don't. Keep the feedback for improvements coming in! We're listening!
