A Word From Africa It is summertime, and here in Pure Michigan, these are precious days on our calendars. I would like to share are a few “bits-and-pieces” from around our church to help us keep in touch as we all come and go through the coming months. We Welcome our Incoming Youth and Family Director, Eric Carlson – in July we will have the opportunity to welcome Eric Carlson, along with Sarah (his wife), Drake (their infant son), and Chewbacca (the family cat). The Carlson’s are coming from Virginia Beach, Virginia; but their family roots are much closer to us in Lapeer and Snover. The primary focus of Eric’s ministry with us will be providing leadership for our church’s youth ministry. Eric’s start date will be July 1, with the Staff Parish Relations Committee hosting a reception on July 8 to welcome the Carlson’s. Similar to when I joined our church several years ago, the SPRC will also help to coordinate several “Meet-‘N-Greets” throughout the summer to give our church the opportunity to meet Eric. I hope many of us will be able to take this opportunity to greet Eric and learn a little bit more about his passion for youth and the presence of God’s love in their lives. Let us join one another in praying for the Carlson’s in June, so that they may have a good ending in Virginia Beach, while looking to start well here in Goodrich. Summer Worship: Sundays at 10:00 AM – we have once again shifted over to our Summer Worship schedule, with worship at 10:00 AM and a time of fellowship afterwards. One slight change you will notice is that we will be trying to host the time together after worship in our Fellowship Area directly behind the sanctuary. As we go to one worship service, let us be intentional to connect not only with those we already know, but also those in our church we may not know as well. Starting June 10 we will be starting our Summer Sunday School. This is for children in Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade, and will take place after the children are dismissed midway through our worship service. Coordinating our Summer Sunday School this year is Kaura Africa. The theme is A Visit to Wemmickville (based on series of books by Max Lucado), which will focus on how we are all fearfully and wonderfully made by God. We’re Going Overboard with Vacation Bible School – July 16-20: Our theme for this year’s VBS is “Operation Overboard: Dare to Go Deep with God”. Directing our dive into the depths of God’s love is Gayle Barthel. Undoubtedly, many hands are needed on deck to help out, so please look for these opportunities in the month to come. (Alright, I’m finished with my painfully witty puns.) Visioning Team: Our work as a team will continue during the summer, with our next meeting scheduled for July 21. Having read and discussed two books (The Externally Focused Church and Simple Church, both of which are available in our church’s library), we will begin our discussions around what we are discerning as God’s purpose and vision for our church. So as you can see there is lots going on in the church. Nonetheless, may this summer bring a different pace from the rest of the year that allows us to enjoy and appreciate the blessings God pours into our lives with his life-sustaining and life-changing grace. God’s Best – Pastor Jeremy
