The North and the South couldn't agree on many things and their quarrel led to our Civil War. A civil war is a war fought within your country. The southern states wanted to create a new nation and not be included as part of our United States. The North wanted to keep our country together. These disagreements had been going on for decades over the future of our new nation. During the Civil War, drummers played an important part for both the Union army and the army for the Confederacy. The battles were fought on the ground in the past without the benefit of airplanes, tanks, and bombs that are part of our present day world. An officer would mount his stallion and lean over to command the drummer to play a drum call to begin the charge. The drummers went into battle without the benefit of a weapon! They carried their drums and canteens filled with water. Even though their part was very important, they didn't get the glory that the soldiers did as they performed their part during the rebellion.
