In this activity you are going to produce a set of instructions for calculating the relative atomic mass of an element by putting the statements below into a sensible, sequential order.
Target Language or Knowledge:
Isotopes are varieties of the same type of atom. They have the same amount of protons. However, they have more or less neutrons. Relative atomic mass is an average of the isotopes. It can be calculated as follows: Write down all the isotopes given. Write down the percentage abundance for each. Multiply the % abundance by the r.a.m for each. Add together all of the values. Divide by 100. Sometimes the answer can have a decimal value.
