The Kite Flying Competition

Over the Easter weekend my husband and I went to Semaphore beach to see the kite flying competition. First we met our daughter who was with her husband and their two daughters. I gave my two granddaughters their Easter eggs, and they were very excited. We decided to walk along the jetty because that was the best place to see the kites. The north side of the jetty was for the registered competitors and the southern side was for the public who wanted to fly kites. It was still quite early in the day and there wasn't very much wind so the competitors were having trouble getting their kites into the air. We went to the amusement park for a while and the children went on some rides. After that we all went for a ride on the miniature steam train. It was a long train ride. The return trip was four kilometres. When we got to the end of the track, they had to turn the engine around to come back, just like in the children's story of Thomas the Tank Engine. While we were on the train, the wind increased and on the way back, we could see a lot more kites in the sky. By the time we got back we were quite hungry so we went to the pub for lunch. We sat outside where we could see the kites flying and talked about which ones we liked the best. There was a large colourful stingray and a big black whale. There was also a beautiful mermaid, an orange horse and a very colourful fish. We thought the fish was the best, but the stingray and mermaid were also very good. After lunch, the children were getting tired so we had a quick ride on the Ferris wheel and they went home. My husband and I had a final walk on the jetty to see the kites before we left to catch the bus home. It was a really enjoyable day and I recommend that next Easter, you should also go to see the kite flying competition.
