LONG "o" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE:   You don't say a "silent" letter.               For example, "live" has a silent "e". You say, "liv_".  You don't say the "e".              "Rain" has a silent "i".  You don't say the "i" in this word. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this picture there is a SHORT dog for SHORT vowel sounds and a LONG dog for LONG vowel sounds. examples:  "cap" has a SHORT "a" sound (ex. hat, man, can)                   "paint" has a LONG "a" sound (ex.  make, April, pay)
