Jonas felt exhilaration when he slid down the hill on a sled. The pain of the war memory was unendurable to the point that Jonas was ready to die. Jonas had to try and not be conspicuous when he was running away or he would get caught. Because Jonas was The Receiver, he had an exemption from many of the rules and could lie and be rude. To be rude was considered a infraction in Jonas's community. The dark clouds loomed on the horizon promising rain. The committee of elders were the ones who chose who your spouse and assignment would be. If you had an aptitude for caring for children, you might be a Nurturer. Lilly was very impatient and coundn't wait for her parents and Jonas to finish talking. During some of the bad memories, Jonas felt anguish and sorrow. Some of the more wretched feelings Jonas felt were starvation, pain, loneliness, and abandonement. When you expect one thing to happen, but the opposite happens it is called ironic.
