TIME

Target Language or Knowledge:

  In the nick of time: Just at the last possible moment; barely on time. At the crack of dawn: Very early in the morning, when the sun is just rising. Once in a blue moon: Very rarely. In the blink of an eye: Happening very quickly or instantly. For the time being: For now or for a short period of time. From time to time: Occasionally, not regularly. Around the clock: All day and all night; continuously. In no time: Very quickly; almost immediately. Time flies: Time passes very quickly, especially when you're having fun or busy. To kill time: To do something to make the time pass faster, usually while waiting for something else. In due time: Eventually, at an appropriate or suitable time. At the eleventh hour: At the last possible moment, just before it's too late. Ahead of time: Earlier than a given time; before something is due. On time: Punctually; at the appointed or scheduled time. Against the clock: To do something as fast as possible because there's very little time. To have time on one's hands: To have more time available than one knows what to do with; to have free time. High time: The latest acceptable time; suggesting that action should be taken immediately. Time and again: Frequently; many times; often. A race against time: Trying to do something difficult in a limited amount of time. To buy time: To do something in order to delay an event or to give oneself more time to prepare for it.
