Copy the red notes then answer the questions Flowering plants are found almost everywhere on the Earth’s surface. Flowers are the sex organs of these plants. A flower usually contains both the male and female reproductive organs, and produces the sex cells (ovules and sperm).The male reproductive organ is called the stamen. It consists of a long filament with an anther on the top of it. The anther produces pollen. Pollen produces a sperm cell.The female reproductive organ is called the carpel and consists of three parts. The sticky, sugar- coated stigma catches pollen and sits on top of a long style. At the base of the style is the ovary. The ovary produces ovules(eggs) and when these are fertilis ed, seeds are produced.Some flowers need to attract insects and birds to help them transfer pollen from one plant to another. They do this by producing brightly-coloured petalsand nectar.
