Kronstadt Rebellion (1921) March 1921: Sailors and soldiers at Kronstadt rebelled against Bolshevik rule. Kronstadt sailors had previously been strong supporters of the Bolsheviks and were known as the "reddest of the red." xCauses Growing dissatisfaction with War Communism. Around 60,000 Red Army troops were used in the final attack. The rebellion was crushed in March 1921. Thousands were killed, imprisoned or executed, while others fled to Finland. Convinced Lenin that major policy changes were needed. Helped prompt the introduction of the New Economic Policy (NEP) in March 1921.
